The Original Pancake House is the gold standard in breakfast. When you have a restaurant that closes at 3 o'clock you better have a good business plan to keep the doors open. Not only is the breakfast absolutely top notch, the service is very consistent. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it's all good. The fruit on the pancakes is always fresh, everything always comes out hot & the juice is always fresh squeezed. I do not go anywhere else for breakfast, period. It's a little more on the expensive side but the price is easily justified with the quality of the food. The place is a little on the smaller side and it's always packed on Sunday even as the day moves on. 2 hour wait time is not uncommon, however with call ahead seating the staff will simply schedule your table for a specified time. Once you have arrived and checked in, it's usually only a manner of minutes before being seated even if the waiting area is packed. Suburb food, excellent serving staff & consistent service. If you are a breakfast buff, make Pancake house your new home, you won't be disappointed.

If you're going on a weekend call ahead. You'll be waiting awhile if you don't! Great food, coffee and service. Our server was attentive and welcome despite the busyness. I ordered an omelet and pancakes, delicious and took half home. Huge portions! The atmosphere isn't the best (open, cramped and noisy) but you're there for the food. :)

Food is okay. A bit pricey for the selection. You pay more for the atmosphere. The seats are comfortable, place is quiet, and more of the business types because of its location. For a better food selection and better price, try IHOP.

They have good food, though pretty expensive too. They also have amazingly bad service. While we had nice servers few times, quite a few times our servers were incompetent and aggressive. We 've been brought wrong food and had waiters argue with us that that is what we ordered. We had a waiter snap at us when asked to bring something. We tried to alert the manager to unprofessional attitudes of their servers, but the woman didn't care to listen. I guess rudeness and poor training goes all the way up in this company. So for us the bottom line is that considering their long waits, high prices and often really bad service it is just not worth it. P. S. We had a conversation with general manager, and had a completely different experience. He was interested to hear us out, apologized and tried to rectify the situation. Very relieved to encounter a professional and decent person there. We'll give them another chance.

We loved everything about our experience! Great service, wonderful food, and gluten free options! We hope to visit again soon! They have a "call ahead" seating option to help with the issue of long wait-times.

Called ahead for two people, and when we arrived we were told it would be 5 to 10 minutes. After waiting for 20 minutes I went to ask how much longer it would be and I was told we were next. After watching two more names get called for two people, I was about to walk out. Then we finally we got seated. Bottom line: food is good but overpriced, and not worth the wait. Next time I will make my own breakfast or go to Perkins. At least there you get seated right away.

I'd heard family members talk about this place in the past, and with a little time to kill in the Twin Cities before a flight home, it was the perfect time to check it out. We arrived at noon on a Monday - the restaurant was fairly busy, but we were seated immediately. This place gets very busy on weekends, so plan ahead accordingly. The menu features a wide variety of pancake options, as well as your other standard breakfast options. I ordered a full stack of chocolate chip pancakes (inner child at work), and a side order of hash browns. Positives: -Fresh-squeezed OJ! Definitely not something you get at most breakfast places. -Great pancakes with plenty of options to choose from. -The best, I repeat, the BEST hashbrowns I've ever had. Negatives: -A tad bit pricier than your standard breakfast places, but not by too much. All the hype for this place held up - it's certainly one of the best breakfast spots I've been to in some time. I will definitely be back to try some other pancakes and get more hashbrowns!

There are some great breakfast joints out there, especially in Minneapolis, but when I don't feel like making the drive and don't feel like settling for a Perkins or Baker's Square, I'll go to The Original Pancake House. When I'm craving breakfast, this place always hits the spot and never really disappoints. The portions are either just right or huge - classics are usually just right, pancakes and omelets are huge. The pancakes are fluffy and omelets hearty. A great selection of sides. This place won't disappoint. I go to the one in Maple Grove and can only assume that all the other locations are similar. The food will fill you up and leave you satisfied.

I appreciate the 'call ahead seating' option. The food isn't awful, but it's nothing to rave about, either. The menu mentioned homemade corned beef, but the corned beef hash was definitely from a can. The hash browns looked good, but had a powdery consistency, like they were reconstituted from dried potatoes. The hollandaise sauce was yellow, that's about all I'll say for it. The buttermilk pancakes had a cake-mix like flavor, with maybe a bunch of powdered sugar in them? I don't know, but they weren't great and at a place called the pancake house, they should be excellent. Everything had WAY too much 'prep' a.k.a. fake butter flavored oil used to keep things from sticking to the flat top. On top of the food being overall "meh," our server was rushed and not friendly at all. In fact while we were ordering drinks, she asked in an accusing tone, "You NEED cream?" Yes, I need cream. She brought all our drinks a while later, and accused me again, "You NEED cream?" Yes, if I'm going to drink coffee, I need cream. If you've ever eaten somewhere amazing, like at The Duluth Grill, don't ever go here. It's just a huge disappointment.

Consistently good breakfast and lunch place (it closes daily at 3 pm) with the same menu all day. Extraordinarily large variety of pancakes and crepes with most also available GLUTEN-FREE. I've always enjoyed my meals here. Standard breakfast and lunch choices except for the amazing variety of pancakes. Nice, clean, cheery atmosphere with attentive service. Outdoor seating but the view is of a parking lot and freeway. This is a popular spot that doesn't take reservations. However, you can call one hour ahead and be put on the waiting list. That almost always works out fine.

Great breakfast menu done well. The decor is warm and cheery, the servers are friendly and the pancakes are way above IHOP fare. This was our first time here, so we did not try anything terribly unique, but all the breakfast items were excellent. As noted by others, the place gets full, so calling ahead is definitely the way to go.

I ordered the house special apple pancakes. I wasn't aware I needed a team to help me eat it. The portion was huge. Went back a couple days later and got the cinnamon role pancakes. Those were excellent.

We were house-hunting in the area-and needed some lunch! This fit the bill, and gave us a little clue into the neighborhood... We liked it! The coffee was hot, we got right in (at one o'clock it was still pretty packed on a Sunday) and it was filled with a lot of extended families eating brunch. We split a spinach omelet, which was puffy and filled with mushroom, cheese and fresh spinach and tomatoes, and it came with a stack of pancakes all for nine bucks! Good deal, hot coffee, nice people. I wouldn't drive out of the way to come here, but if you're in Maple Grove, it's a nice place for breakfast.

Breakfast rarely gets better than this! Awesome food, expert service, bacon to die for, strawberry crepes of your dreams. Plan ahead-- they always have a long line, but it's worth the wait. Hot chocolate is outstanding, too.

Easiest review that I have written in a while. Five star experience all the way! While visiting our cousins, they suggested going here for Sunday breakfast. She called ahead to get us on the list. We showered and headed over. We were seated in a few short minutes. Perfect! The four of us sat in a large booth and had excellent service. I would almost drive from IL to MN again just for this breakfast, but I don't think I will have to because I understand there may be some locations closer to home. Winning! The hubby ordered corned beef hash and eggs. It looked and tasted fan-freaking-tastic! He was thrilled beyond words!!! His cousin ordered peanut butter chip banana pancakes. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! Her fiancé opted for the same meal as my husband...it's a guy thing. :-) I went with an apple waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side and crisp bacon. Every bite was like I died and went to heaven. I don't remember the last time that I enjoyed breakfast this much. It was a superb waffle. Prices were right where they should be. Parking was not a hassle. There is plenty of waiting room in the lobby. Go there and enjoy!

What is there to say about this place that hasn't already been said? The food is absolutely fantastic, the staff is amazing and the food is absolutely fantastic. I don't know if I mentioned this, but the food is absolutely fantastic. Go here!!

Pancakes just like Mom used to make. Runny. She was a horrible cook. Throw all the fancy toppings on, inside, underneath, whatever, it doesn't matter here. Add 2 classes of warm milk for the price of 2 gallons and there you have it. Overpriced and Undercooked. Never again. Oh, and on National Pancake Day to boot. One star because there is no negative option.

The breakfast delights were tasty and worthy of 4ish stars. Unfortunately for us, we had a waitress who was a pure grump. She seemed bothered to come to our table at any point. We focused on the food and its tastiness. I feel like, if we came back, we'd have a much better server experience and stars 4 and 5 could be sprinkled back in.

The host doesn't know how to sit people. We waited 45 minutes. He seated the people who came after us. Will never recommend this place to any Asian peeps. My 1st and last stop

I'm a bit of a breakfast food nut. My idea of an awesome date night or anniversary dinner: breakfast for dinner. Original Pancake House has an amazing menu of pancakes, waffles, crepes and other delicious breakfast items. A dangerous condiment mix of butter, whipped cream and various syrups. Plus, a lot of things made gluten-free if you're not in the wheat crowd. Always really quick and attentive service. Think they're usually crazy on the weekends, but tables seem to turnover pretty quickly without making one feel rushed to get in and out.

My family found this location while I was moving up to Minneapolis in 2012 and we have had dozens of return trips to this location. Service: Never had a bad waiter or waitress, some of them are so friendly they could get you to return just to have them serve you. Atmosphere: It's a breakfast place, the atmosphere feels just like that, it's a bit of a home-y feel to it with the fireplace and decor Food: The food is always so good I have a hard time deciding if I want to get the same thing as last time or try something new. Good food I've had or tried: Pancakes- strawberry, bacon, peanut butter, chocolate chip. The hash browns are a must, with cheese of course. My all time favorite right now is the pigs in a blanket, sausage wrapped in a pancake. Each pancake has a different sauce that compliments the pancake excellently. Pancake house gets 5 stars because of constantly good food and good service.

I'm not that impressed overall the food is over priced and wasn't that good. I gave it this rating because I have eaten at over 30 local breakfast places and I feel for the price it's actually worse. It's over 10$ a place and it's not really that amazing. Now that being said the servers were awesome and the pancakes were good. "Not better than I'm use to" the inside is very nice and it was a overall quality breakfast just nothing amazing. If you want to compare go to fat nat's eggs and see their prices and a true breakfast and then right a review about this place!

This was a fantastic breakfast place. They're a franchise but that leads to some being better than others and this was the best I've experienced so far. I had a really delicious omelette with hash browns. Followed by the most amazing pumpkin pancakes. Strongly recommend!

We made a reservation and got seated quickly. Great staff. Our server was Anastasia P. She was great, quick, and followed up in a timely matter. Food was good, hot and fresh. Couldn't ask for more. I got the cowboy omelette. Woah! Lots of food. I left a good tip for Anastasia.

Go, you won't be disappointed! This is the best place in the Twin Cities for breakfast, although their pancakes and waffles are far better than their eggs. Oh, and everything is served with lots of cream so don't go if you are on a diet. But it is soooo incredibly good, and great coffee, too!

Always great food, plenty of options, most likely a bit of a wait for a table. Found a hair in the eggs on most recent visit. Usually am done eating at that point and don't even tell staff, I get it, it happens...but yuck! Only complaint of this place is the bus staff. They tend to stand out I'm the open bored waiting for a table or even a plate to clear. I appreciate the prompt turn around for this reason, but to see them hovering bored waiting for you to die like a vulture is ridiculous. But food is amazing and fulfilling always!!

I am a giant, fat man and I eat massive amounts of pancakes and bacon. So, you should probably pay very close attention when I review a breakfast joint. For some reason, I'd never visited the Original Pancake House in Maple Grove before this past weekend. It's probably because there is consistently an hour-plus wait every weekend morning. My son and I had lunch here last Saturday and the food was excellent. It was busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The server was fantastic. Genuine, nice service without being annoyingly phony. The food came out fast and as I mentioned before, it was amazing. Two negatives for me... the men's room was a little rough. Even my ten year, who has no concept of hygiene and spends 20 hours per day with a finger up his nose, thought the bathroom was a little gross. The other issue was the price. $4 for an orange juice is a little on the high-side... I don't care how fresh squeezed it is. Overall, it was great experience and we'll be back.

I had enjoyed the Edina location for decades. Imagine my delight when a location opened in my neck of the woods. I am just getting around to writing a review of the MG location. I have never had a less than an excellent breakfast at this place. They do everything on their menu extremely well. Even the scrambled eggs are creamy and delicious. I love this place!

So happy to find a yummy breakfast place in the 'burbs. I recently moved out to the northwestern suburbs and was craving a good breakfast. I had been to the OPH in Edina before and I liked it so my husband and I gave the MG version a try. The food was fabulous and HUGE. I ordered one of their omlets and it was just as delicious as others have noted. It was fluffly and stuffed with all types of yummy vegetables. For my pancakes I opted for the chocolate chip on the side. They are the perfect complement with whipped cream (did I mention this is not a diet friendly place?). Both portions were so large, the leftovers made it to lunch the next day. My husband ordered the crepes which also had to only be half eaten. The crepes were a little too sweet for my taste but he loved them. The downsides are the coffee pricing and the parking lot. While OPH is right off the highway it is pretty trick to get to. Be wary if you make the trek over. Also, the coffee seemed really expensive for what it was - $2.50 for plain ol joe. Next time I'll go with water and have my coffee later. Maybe I'm being cheap but it just didn't seem worth it. We got there around 8:30 on a Saturday and it was nearly packed. I'm assuming the wait times can get busier as the day goes on...just a warning!

One word Amazing! I'll come back anytime. People complaining on the hostess doesn't really matter cause the wait is really worth it! We didn't have to wait at all. The service is outstanding everyone is nice . Want good breakfast? This is the right place!

Going through recent receipts- writing reviews. Since when does breakfast for three including coffee for one cost $48? Today's culprit is Original Pancake House in Maple Grove. Service and setting ok- its a franchise which features quality breakfasts. They were nice and let me order a BLT (not on weekend menu) but-unfortunately it was not the BLT I remember. Anyway, BLT, Crepes, Omelet/pancakes and Eggs Bene added up. Breakfast is supposed to be a less expensive meal because the ingredients are cheaper and no expensive proteins. With tax and tip we hit $58. Food was good, but just how expensive can eggs and pancakes get? How much would it cost to make yourself a 3 egg omelet with toast and coffee at home? I'm out.

Although the food is quite good, I don't think that its worth the wait which in some cases go for up to an hour on weekends.....

  • John C.

First off, the food and service are very good. My server smelled like an ashtray, but he was attentive and polite. Excellent menu choices! The pancakes are smaller than normal (approx 5" diameter) as compared to other places, but very tasty. So when they call it a "stack", it's really 5 silver dollar pancakes spread across a plate. They really zap you on the side item prices. For a side of 2 sausage patties, they charge $4.75. Really?

This particular Original Pancake House wasn't as busy as the others I've been to. It had a nice cozy feel. The waitstaff was attentive. The potato pancakes are stellar here. The hashbrowns are worth trying too. I will have to try their apple pancake next time!

The pancake house used to be the go to place when I and my friends had a weekend craving for a non-Asian breakfast back when I lived in Madison, WI. They got this great and huge souffle omelette. The pancakes are always great. Ive always liked the strawberry pancake with tons of fresh strawberry and whipped cream. I tried their garden benedict today, and it was also pretty good.

Deee-licious! These guys are doin' breakfast right. And they're not skimpy on the pancakes! But honestly, everything is good. Love their Eggs Benedict. There can be a huge line on a weekend morning if you get there too late (say, after 9am), but if you don't have a pile of starving kids, I suggest you wait. You'll be glad you did ;)

They did a fabulous job of seating and serving our group of 17 people. When I called to get on their "advanced waiting list" they gave me an honest assessment of when tables would be ready and seated us right away on arrival. The excellent waitress handled our group without a hitch. Food came out quickly, all at the same time and hot. The food was very good. All members of our very diverse group all were pleased with what they ordered. So here we have courtesy, consistency, professionalism, good food. Very impressive.

I didn't realize breakfast could manage to be decadent and not greasy at the same time! Being a huge fan of breakfast food, I have visited most of the breakfast places in town - from the quirky Hell's Kitchen, to the grease-tastic Uptowner, to the hipster central Pizza Luce. But the Original Pancake House just blew me out of the water! The restaurant is located in a strip mall. From inside and out, it doesn't look nice enough to be Hell's Kitchen, nor does it look divey enough to be the Uptowner. I trusted my fellow yelpers and decided to give it a try, and was pleasantly surprised! I had the apple pancake the first time I went, and it really looked more like a flat-ish monkey bread than a pancake... I was thoroughly intimated by the sheer size of it. It was perfectly fluffy and gooey at the same time, and the hint of apple is just the "cherry" on top. Just excellent! I would highly recommend calling ahead half an hour earlier. They don't take reservations and they are always busy. We had to wait for at least 20 minutes both of the times we went. Go check it out on a Sunday morning when you are feeling uninspired and order something you've never heard of off the menu - I guarantee you'll feel quite differently when you leave.

Can an OPH get any better? Oh, yes, when you come to MG. I never knew this city was split by the freeway and then off 494. An upscale pancake house. Even calling out names isn't good enough. They provide the pagers that make you jump a mile. There always seems to be a wait, so I got to read my Joe R. Lansdale book by the fireplace. Not the same owner as others, neither is the layout of the menu. Lots more choices, even on the kids menu. I am enjoying the rest of my omelet as I write this. I got the Irish, filled with homemade corned beef hash, aged cheddar, that oozes out on the first, and every bite. I'm temped to put this on my Kiss me I'm Irish list. I broke down and ordered coffee when I found out they aren't using the wretched Farmer's Brothers brand. It was a little strong for me and raw sugar is available on request. The pancakes were as delicious as ever. The gloomy sky actually added to the coziness. Service from Steph was great. If they ever 'allow' this franchise to be in the cities, I hope it's this owner.

Looking for an amazing breakfast? Look no further!! Everything about this place was amazing. Service was quick and professional! Felt a little rushed towards the end but they are always on a wait so it's understandable. Corned beef and hash! Enjoyed it immensly! Way too much to eat for me especially with the three pancakes. Get the side of fruit!! You get strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries along with powdered sugar and cream to dip em in! I'm drooling just talking about it! I tried my gf's biscuits and gravy and those too are incredible! Big chunks of sausage in the gravy and the biscuits were moist and delicious! Will be back again and again to try everything else! Recommendation- Call ahead for reservations. It's always backed up!

I didn't realize there was an OPH in Maple Grove but I have to say I love this location. The menu is a little different then the other TC locations but seemed to have all the same items and the interior of the restaurant is great - it doesn't have the packed in feeling of Edina and is more upscale than all the others. Now to the important stuff...the food. In short, it was great and it was fast. I'm always torn when I order - I love the Apple Pancakes - huge, full of apples, cinnamon and sugar but I wasn't in the mood for something that sweet today. The Dutch German Pancakes are also amazing. But today I had to go with the 49er pancakes. As usual, they were light and tasty and, when smothered in their amazing syrup, were exactly what I needed. As always one of my favorite parts of the meal at OPH is the bacon - thick cut and made crisp (but not burnt) just as I ordered. And the eggs were a perfect over-medium. To top it all off was a cold glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and a cup of really great coffee - they must use a different coffee than the other locations too. I don't care for the java at the other locations. What really amazed me, though, was the breakfast sandwich that my daughter ordered. It was HUGE. A pile of thinly cut and incredibly tasty ham, a pile of eggs and oozing with cheese. It looked and tasted amazing. Did I mention it was huge? The food and the restaurant were great but what sealed the 5th star was the service. Our waitress was quick, efficient and very friendly. Some of the servers in other locations always seem like they are trying to hurry you through every step. Not here. Great breakfast!!!!

I HAD to get the corned beef hash with eggs. It was so good I cleaned off my plate. Only problem was that I ordered eggs over medium, but it was pretty much over easy. I can eat it that way, I just preferred it a little more done. Again, I cleaned off my plate, so I can't complain too much. I also upgraded to banana pancakes. Yummy! I did't need any syrup for it...it was tasty and moist on its own. I brought the pancakes home and it was good as leftovers, too. The server was good about keeping our drinks refilled while we were there, and it was quick service before the lunch rush.

Awesome. I think The Original Pancake House might now be my favorite breakfast spot! Pumpkin Pancakes- awesome, with a great pumpkiny flavor. Santa Fe Omelette - Quite possibly the best omelette I have had at a restaurant. Huge, fluffy, fresh, flavorful, filling. I loved it! Peanut Butter Pancakes- Very good. Fresh Strawberry Crêpes- Very good. Buttermilk Pancakes- Quite good, nice flavor and consistency. 49 Flapjacks- Good Hot Chocolate- Good, with great mugs! Clean restaurant, big and comfortable booths, good service, usually very busy.

I have been to this place quite a few times for their pancakes. I have always taken their food to go, but I have never dined in before. I have almost always have good service from this place. The pancakes are delicious. The cooks do a fantastic job at cooking everything. The pancakes are always given to me hot and fresh. I love that I can order at the front desk, and they start cooking them right away (or so it seems). I usually do not have to wait any longer than 15 minutes (that is on a busy day). My favorite pancakes there are the strawberry ones. I usually do not like fruit on my pancakes, but this place manages to get it right (I tried the strawberries because of a friend's recommendation). The employees there are friendly and helpful. I have met one of the managers, and he is friendly too. They appear to do their jobs well. They also appear to do a great job at keeping everything organized and clean. My only complaint is that sometimes, the bathrooms can be a little messy. Other than that, they appear to be on top of things. I do not get to that area much, except for work. When I do, I will continue to keep this place in mind when I am in the mood for some good pancakes.

Love this place - everything I've had is YUMMY. If you plan on going for brunch on the weekend, be sure to get a reservation! You'll probably be waiting a very, very long time otherwise. I've enjoyed everything I've tried here, but most recently felt I could die and go to heaven while trying their new lemon-ricotta pancakes with blueberry sauce - ahh, mouth watering just thinking about it! I've also love a few of their omelettes. Yum. We've gone a few times at this point, and will continue to go back! Looking forward to our next brunch date here =) (I'll definitely be ordering the lemon-ricotta pancakes again!).

I love breakfast food and this place truly satisfies. I have had several of the dishes and none of them disappointed. For one they treat bacon the way it deserves to be treated. I hate when I order bacon and it is limp and fatty, here it is thick and firm (but not too crispy) and full of flavor. The pancakes are small but awesome, I recommend the peanut butter ones. Finally, the reason this place became a favorite, they have a giant omelette that they stuff with meat and cheese and Top with sausage gravy! Because how do make an omelette even better? Gravy! Delicious Gluttony! It can end up being a little pricey for breakfast but the portions are generous so to me it justifies the price. My one complaint, and the reason we aren't here every weekend, is the wait. You will face a 45 minute wait any weekend. If you try to call ahead as they recommend I have never been told less than 90 minutes. If you are like me it takes so long to decided where to eat that by the time you do, the last thing you want to do is wait another 45-90 minutes for breakfast. I wish they could come up with a better system, doing away with the call ahead might actually improve things.

Summary: - very solid pancakes - busy; expect a wait - friendly service --- I always viewed pancakes as one of those dishes that are all at the same level. After all, isn't it just some pancake mix? In the hierarchy of pancake goodness, I would say The Original Pancake House is above average. The restaurant was packed on a random Thursday morning for a reason. The service was decently fast and Midwestern friendly. I ordered the peanut butter pancakes and it came on a pretty presentation topped with peanut butter chips. The flavor was pretty sweet, not requiring the variety of syrups available. The pancakes were piping hot and fluffy. Unfortunately, I've had outstanding pancakes and on the grand scheme of things, this was pretty good. The food didn't completely wow me but I would eat it again. It's definitely a class above it's peers in the area, including IHOP, Perkins, or Denny's.

Weather is great today! Lots of sunshine! Waking up craving for pancakes! My first time here. So many people on the weekends! Long wait! Almost 50+ mins. My recommendation is to make reservation ahead of time! The place is warm! Feels like eating at home. Many different styles of Pancakes on the menu. Want to try them all! Their orange juice "IS" fresh squeezed as indicated in the menu. I say that because other restaurant has same menu but their orange juice is never fresh squeezed!

This place never disappoints. Sometimes the wait is long, but you can call ahead to get your name on the list. So many delicious pancake options, and the caramel sauce that comes with the banana caramel french toast tastes good on pretty much everything. It's really easy to customize your order too. The cherry kijafa crepes, banana caramel french toast, and chocolate chip pancakes with a side of ham are my favorite items. And there's a patio for beautiful sunny mornings!

The food is good every time I come here. My favorite thing to get is the O.P.H. Omelette with Sourdough French Toast. I had to write a review because while the service is always good, it was exceptional this time around. Penny was one of the best waiters I've had, not just at The Original Pancake House, but at any restaurant I've been to. This place is worth the wait (although they do take reservations) and is definitely a go-to breakfast spot!

Great place to go get breakfast food. Always busy recommend calling ahead and getting on the waiting list. They put us down for a 9:45 am sit down, got there before 9:30 and waited probably only 5 minutes before a table opened up and we were seated. The menu is pretty big, so many tasty options! Ended up getting the banana pancakes short stack, my husband got the coconut waffle, my son got the kids menu chocolate chip pancakes short stack and a side of the corned beef hash. Pancakes were delish! My son who is normally a picky eater ate half his meal! We are definitely coming back again when we want some good pancakes

Was not impressed. Hash browns had a weird seasoning on them. Sausage patties were the frozen ones. I got cinnamon French toast and it was overwhelmingly cinnamon flavored. It was good but not great and for how expensive it is I was expecting to be super impressed. Was kind of let down. Will not be back.

Food is good, (when they haven't run out of 1/2 the menu), but the host staff make it not worth the wait. They say you can call ahead to reduce your wait time, but each time we have done this people who didn't call ahead and showed up after we've already been waiting for 30 minutes were seated sooner than we were...and not by just a few minutes! The ditzy blonde teeny-bopper gum popping hostess can't tell time and looks like she just rolled out of bed. There's also a good chance that when you do finally get a table, they will be out of the selections they call their "special creations", which was why you went there in the place! This place used to be better, but now is all about quantity (how fast they can herd people in and out) and not quality or retaining long-time regular customers. Waitstaff gets worse each time as well. Not sure if this place even rates 1 star anymore. Edina and Roseville locations are 10x better - in both food and service!

My colleagues and I have been staying at the Hilton Garden Inn next door for a week-long conference. Consequently, after we decided to try this lovely place on Monday, we fell in love with it so much that we came back -- every. Single. Day. Today is our fifth day in a row, and wet mentioned this to our waiter. Unbeknownst to us, he arranged for us to receive their house special Dutch Apple pancake for free as a way of thanking us for coming on five days consecutively. That left an indelible impression on all three of us! Plus, the apple pancake is delicious. I'll post a picture. Eat here.

Call ahead because this place is popular. I prefer to eat the Dutch Baby or Dutch Treat. This is a unique Pancake that can be lemon or berry flavored. It does require some "man handling" as Brian would say.

The Original Pancake House was such a pleasant experience. They don't take reservations - but they do allow call aheads so you can be added to the wait list! Such a marvelous service to have, especially when you plan to dine with children. There were 7 of us in total 5 adults and 2 kids - the service by everyone was excellent. They provide coloring pages and crayons for the kids and coffee at the front door for anyone waiting to be seated. Thankfully since we called ahead we didn't have to wait long! The restaurant was clean, nice decor, large booths that made you feel like you were almost dining alone! Adorable coffee and hot chocolate mugs! They use separate plates for the gluten free items (just look for the green stripe around the plate). Our server was very prompt at bringing us coffee and drinks when we were seated - and our coffee was NEVER empty. He was very attentive, helpful, and friendly the entire meal. Everyone in the group was happy with their meals. We ordered: Fresh Strawberry Crêpes - TONS of fresh strawberries and whipped cream - we had multiple orders of these at the table - delicious! Gluten Free Fresh Strawberry Crêpe - again TONS of fresh strawberries - it was too big to finish - delicious and I would definitely order again! Pumpkin Pancakes - I was told they had great pumpkin flavor Gluten Free French Toast - the little one enjoyed them for breakfast two days in a row! Peanut Butter Pancakes - the pancakes are flavored of peanut butter with peanut butter chips on top - everyone that tried them thought they were wonderful. 49er FLAPJACKS - large, thin, and chewy-gooey! Hashbrowns - perfectly crispy and I loved the flavor of the seasoning and onions they add to them When we left we were, a little bit heavier, extremely full, caffeinated, and best of all happy!

My stars have nothing to do with the food it is awesome! The issue here is all about the front of the house with the hostess. They have absolutely no clue how to organize their dinning room which makes the wait time 3x what it needs to be. I have spoke to them multiple times about this with no improvement. Even calling ahead you can plan on a 30-45 minute wait minimum. If they could just get their seating process down this place would be the best!

They have a large number of pancake options, and I've never had anything bad at one of their locations. The only kicks I have are 1) usually busy enough you have to wait 2) expensive 3) helpings are not especially generous 4) coffee is not very good. The coffee is "cream and two sugars" and seems to vary from time to time, which usually means it sits too long on the heat (heresy!) or that they're using sometimes-stale coffee (also heresy!). It's puzzling when a place that seems to care about the quality of the food doesn't bother with good coffee, but . . . maybe they think it IS good. If so, they're mistaken.

I love this place! Food is always good and comes out quick no matter how busy they are. We love the banana caramel French toast and buttermilk pancakes with chocolate chips; NOT the chocolate chip pancakes, yes there is a difference. They have call ahead which means you can be put on the wait list to be seated when you're still at home and by the time you arrive your wait time is cut by about half.

This is not an IHOP or Perkins & the nice decor & quality of food delivered a great experience. We enjoyed Attentive service & fresh squeezed OJ in addition to great food. The German pancake was excellent, be sure to try the powdered sugar & lemon wedges recommended with it. Pigs in a blanket was good & although I would order it again there are so many choices on the menu I would need to try something else next time!

This place gets really busy on the weekends but if you have the chance to go on weekdays you'll be seated right away. Service and food are both really good

Today was the first time at this original pancake house that I received tasteless food. I first tried the potato pancakes, they were not done and some burnt. No flavor. I had the waitress take them back and I decided to try the corn beef hash. Same thing, no flavor. Best tasting was my tomato juice. Also, my wife's coffee tasted burnt. At least they took off my meal.

Haven't received food yet but the hostess experience was lacking. They were not welcoming and seemed extremely disorganized. They appeared to be calling names from at least 6 different sheets. I heard them write the same number buzzer for multiple parties and miss calling the correct party. If you are a walk-in customer, be prepared to wait because they are taking reservations before you, but this will not be explained to you. It's only after you wait for an hour and ask why other parties that came in after you are seated are you told the projected wait time you were told was actually the window of time you had to wait until you were even eligible to be sat. Hopefully the food is good. Service seems rushed at best. I know Sunday brunch sucks to work. However, to have meals thrown/slide across a table is not appropriate. This happened at our tables and the tables around us. Our drinks were hit by one of the tossed plates and splashed the table. The pancakes tasted good, so that is a plus, but not worthy of deserving the poor service. The manager seemed to be paying attention and went to each table to check for satisfaction. Unfortunately that didn't overcome the trash on the floor and poor service running around being unable to maintain a high level of care. They didn't even clean the bench seat prior to seating us. Best of luck to those giving this place a try.

Great breakfast place, but you MUST call ahead on the weekends because it is packed. Parking is ample, even when full. Noise level can get up there at times, but it's probably because people are cranked up by the 15 cups coffee they drank. I read a bad review saying the hostess didn't know how to seat people, but my guess is that the reviewer was unaware of their call-ahead seating. My favorite menu items are the raspberry kijafa crepes, Santa Fe omelette, the fruit bowl with berries and banana that is served with powdered sugar and cream, and the banana pancakes (I always order it with strawberry syrup instead of tropical). I've never had anything bad here, nor have I ever had bad service. Ambiance is great.

Great breakfast joint. Portions and taste are great. Plenty of different options to choose from. Really good coffee / cream. We had chocolate pancakes, thick cut bacon, eggs, hash browns and potato pancakes. The hash browns and chocolate pancakes where out of this world. The potato pancakes w/ cinnamon apple sauce were not my favorite, i would try something else next time. Gets busy so make sure to make a reservation beforehand or you could be waiting 45 min plus.

OPH is one of my favorites in Minneapolis area. Depending on where I'm staying I go to either Eden Prairie, Edina or Maple Grove. All have good quality breakfast. Typically I go for the Sante' Fe Omelette which I add Chorizo and have fresh salsa (excellent) but I changed it up this morning to the corned beef and hash omelette. This was very good as well. What made this a 5-star stop was partially the food but more the experience. Stacie my waitress provided excellent service. Let's just say my coffee cup never got below half empty. I actually felt bad for how much running around she was doing. Order was taken promptly as well as the bill was brought right away. Since I'm working during breakfast I could certainly appreciate the time sensitivity prior to my busy day. With her prompt service it spared me a little extra time to write this review!

Disappointed, host staff is horrible, made my pregnant sister-in-law with her two kids wait 20 minutes when I had a reservation but since it was under my name, they had to wait to be seated until I arrived even though the table was ready! Never had an experience like this ever before. Food is fantastic and so was our waiter, BUT host staff absolutely horrible.

Great food, great coffee, and wonderful service! This place is open limited hours, thats it's only mild negative. Unique and diverse food selection, and it's obvious they are using good quality food.

All I have to say is cowbow omlette!!! Been here many of times and service is pretty standard and the breakfast fair is above average. Great place for me as it is right down the street. Only downside is the lines and waits, but at least they now have call ahead which does make it easier.

As far as breakfasts go, it doesn't get much better than this. The Original Pancake House has easily become one of my favorite places to go for a weekend brunch. Although they aren't as "greasy spoon" as some of the other places I frequent, their meals are worth the money you pay. Favorites: Hash browns (made with incredible seasoning), Swedish pancakes with lingonberries(!!), and their fresh squeezed orange juice (tastes like it's straight off the tree). Good for: Morning business meetings, weekend brunch (with family or a date).

Minnesotans love their brunches...and this place doesnt dissappoint. If you cant tell from the name, this is a breakfast joint. Seriously great pancakes and breakfast foods. The portions are HUGE! you will not leave hungry. The wait can be a bit long, but you can call ahead and put your name on the list. Im not sure why they let you do that, but not make a reservation? If you go on a saturday or sunday morning, expect to wait at least 1 hour before being seated. The only thing, and i mean only thing that would make this place better is if it had alcohol, a bloody mary or a mimosa would be nice.

This place gets five stars from me for many reasons. 1. Great coffee. I am a bit of a coffee snob and I really do not enjoy a so so cup at all. Their coffee is good enough to serve at a coffee shop. 2. Great service. Our waiter was prompt, courteous and helpful. 3. Here's the REAL reason they get five stars.... A PLETHORA of delicious Gluten Free options. I took my son here for a breakfast date and he was able to have CHOICES of what he could eat. I myself am not a huge fan of pancakes, but he LOVES them and prior to eating at this place, he only had them at home, when I made them GF. Most, but not all, of the pancakes on the menu can be made GF. This place is pretty crowded, but no worries, guests who come in and have to wait will have a hot cup of coffee to drink in the waiting area as well as ample benches to sit on to enjoy said coffee.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit that as big of a food lover as I am, I'm really not that huge of a breakfast fan. So I was very pleasantly surprised at how darn good the food here really is! They have an enormous selection of pancakes - in every flavor you can think of! The coconut pancakes are awesome! I've had the eggs benedict twice now, and each time it was delicious! The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Just make sure to call ahead if you plan to go on a weekend, or you will be waiting for a long while!

I ordered the strawberry crepes and they were overflowing with fresh, perfectly ripe strawberries and real whipped cream. They were amazing, I don't think I've ever had a perfectly ripe strawberry at a restaurant before. I was expecting some defrosted, previously frozen strawberries in some super sugary sauce with some chemically flavored cool whip so I was amazed when my food came out. The spanish omelette my sister ordered was gigantic and so good even the leftovers didn't last long in the fridge at home. Our server filled up our coffee cups about a million times and remembered the to go order we wanted for our friend at home and everything. He was really on the ball even though it was busy in there. Like any good breakfast place that closes in the afternoon, there is a wait. My advice is to call in ahead of time and ask them to put you on the list. Try to avoid going during the after church rush on Sundays if you can. It's crazy in there at that time. I've been craving pancakes and crepes since the day I ate here, it's so good!

The waiting area of this establishment is a hop-skip-jump away from hell. We wanted good pancakes, so we stuck it out on a Saturday morning for 45 minutes. But I love the menu selection, the inside is a lot classier than you might think (Perkins eat your heart out), and the service was A+. My pancakes were airy and perfect. Yummmm-eeeee. Just wish the crowd in the waiting area didn't put me on the verge of stabbing out my eyes with my car keys.

After hearing all the great things about The Original Pancake House, it was confirmed by me on Saturday morning. They make some darn good blueberry pancakes! I was happy that they give you the option to order a half order (3) of the pancakes if you're not daring enough to go all the way. They have a ton of different pancakes to choose from - chocolate chip, strawberry, etc. and a lot of other yummy things on their menu - omelets, crepes, eggs, etc. There's definitely something for everyone at the Pancake House and their prices are so reasonable that you can take the whole family! Tips: -call an hour before you're going to come in and make a reservation so you don't end up waiting the standard 45 minutes on a Saturday morning for some pancakes!

Great breakfast place. Clean, cozy environment with friendly staff and huge portions of food. Be aware if you order the Omelet, it's HUGE! Hashbrowns with onions and house seasoning is delicious, and for a few more calories, ask your server to top it off with some Cheddar cheese and you will be in hashborwns heaven. Definitely will revisit the place again.

The location of the various Original Pancake Houses are always the problem. They are typically in affluent suburbs. I'm not an affluent suburbs kinda guy so it usually means that this is a special trip for me. It is always worth it. The other problem is the wait, but it is not too bad at this one. The service is always great at all of their locations. The coffee is strong and they use real cream to accompany it. Their breakfast food is as good as it gets. Their omelettes are perfect, always perfect. Fluffy as you have never imagined they could be. Most people have never imagined that omelettes can get this good. Their potato pancakes are amazing and they bring ample supplies of sour cream and apple sauce. I have branched out and tried their other pancakes. Their 49ers are quite good as are their crepes or Swedish pancakes. I've never had anything bad and I've never met anyone that has. They're out of the way and the wait is long, but they are about as good as American breakfast food gets so it is always worth it.

There's not a lot to say about the Original Pancake House (or should I say Houses), but there's a reason why OPH is busy every day of the week. The food is awesome, fairly cheap, and fast, which in America cuisine, are the three main keys to maintaining a business. The menu has something for everyone too, so if you are like me and pancakes aren't your favorite you won't leave hungry. I would suggest the simple yet highly effective two eggs, two patty sausages, and two mugs of hot coffee. Oh, and ask for the wheat bread. It's like cake. Possibly some of the best I've ever had. My only complaint is the coffee, it's not the best but good enough to go along with the meal.

Nice, comfortable place for a breakfast. I am in love with their chocolate pancakes with whip cream on top..pancake is light and fluffy, yum! Will have to try their omelet next.

My favorite breakfast place ever. I would eat here every day if I could. The omelettes are puffy and oh so good. The cinnamon sugar pancakes, banana pancakes, basically any kind of pancake is to die for. The oj is fresh squeezed. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Friendly staff, cozy environment, yummy food, large servings, and they let me order off the kid's menu even though I'm almost 30 (the regular servings tend to be TOO large for me!). It gets VERY busy - I've never even tried to go before 1 on a Sunday, and still end up waiting at least 20 minutes for a table. If you plan ahead better than I do, you can call and put your name down.

I'm surprised this place does not have a higher rating. I would give it a 5 but it's to expensive. Two breakfasts and coffee is around $30. Have eaten there multiple times, every time has been great. Expect a 40 minute wait to be seated for a mid morning weekend breakfast. The bacon is fantastically thick and delicious. The Irish omelet is also really good, but I don't recommend the normal corned beef hash.

Yes, my only complaint is if I sit too long, people will be waiting. Great coffee, great food, great staff. In Maple Grove.
